Hillcrest Church welcomed a likely record number of guests to its annual pancake and sausage breakfast on Tuesday near Strachan Road and 13th Avenue.

It featured live music, pedal tractors, face painting and a lineup that still wound the length of the parking lot at 9:30 a.m.

Senior paster Steve Pahl told the News that he met a number of attendees who were new to Medicine Hat and taking in their first Stampede week.

About 40 long-serving volunteers help put on the event every year, said Pahl.

The week of pancake breakfasts continues today with the annual event at the Medicine Hat Lodge will be held Wednesday morning at the hotel on Dunmore Road from 7-10 a.m., while the Best Western will provide a pulled pork lunch on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m.

Co-op breakfast is set for Friday at the 13th Avenue food store from 7-10 a.m.

Two locally owned restaurants will host breakfasts on Saturday.

Medicine Hat Brewing Co. will host from 7-10 a.m., while the Medicine Hat Utility Ratepayers Association will provide breakfast at the Thai Orchid Room, near Strachan Road, from 8-11 a.m. that day.
