The Medicine Hat Police Service and Blood Tribe Service will each welcome four new police officers to their ranks, as all eight cadets graduated from a comprehensive training program June 28.
The new officers received certificates and are now ready to begin their new careers upholding the law and serving the public, however it hasn’t been an easy road for the cadets to achieve their new badges.
The eight cadets had to complete a challenging 24-week police training program here in Medicine Hat working with their training officers on skills in de-escalation, firearms, problem-solving and teamwork, and completed dozens of simulations of the dangers police officers face when responding to a call.
A social media post from the police states, “Thank you for all your hard work, commitment and dedication that has gotten you to this point. We look forward to watching each of you thrive as you now join your home agency to service and protect the community.”
The Police Officer Cadet Training Program is accredited by Lethbridge College and follows standards set forth by the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General’s office.
In 2025 the Medicine Hat Police Service will host another round of police cadet training. Applications for next year’s training program closed June 1.
