The Medicine Hat College Rattlers athletes have been recognized for their community involvement.
The Rattlers have been awarded the 2024 CCAA Community Service Award, formally presented at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association general meeting in Ottawa on Wednesday.
The CCAA Community Service Award recognizes an institution which has successfully developed and administered a community relations program. The Rattlers were recognized for the involvement of student athletes within Medicine Hat and the surrounding areas.
“Receiving the CCAA Community Service Award for the third time in six years is a tremendous honour and a testament to our commitment to community engagement. We’re dedicated to fostering a culture of service, and this award highlights the significant impact our student athletes’ volunteer efforts have had on Medicine Hat and the surrounding areas,” said Kristina Hyde, athletics and recreation programmer for the Rattlers, in a release.
“Despite their demanding schedules filled with studying, practices and games, they still find time to volunteer and make a meaningful difference. We couldn’t be prouder of our Rattlers for embracing the true spirit of community and leaving a positive, lasting impact on everyone they engage with.”
The Rattlers previously won the CCAA Community Service Award in 2019 and 2020.
Over the past year, the Rattlers volunteered with 85 organizations and events in the Medicine Hat community, contributing to a total of 2,700 hours of community service in seven months.
