The doors open Thursday for the new branch location of CDN controls in Medicine Hat.

The location brings with it the full slate of energy services provider CDN’s works, said Jennifer Sanford, director of communications, from industrial communications and automation to electrical and instrumentation services, as well as fiber optics.

“This is our 11th location, and is a very intentional strategic pivot for us to really show the same kind of market dominance that we’ve had in the north, we want to bring to the south,” said Sanford. “There’s a great opportunity in Medicine Hat, and it’s an opportunity on two fronts.”

The first front being industrial oil and gas, said Sanford, who thinks there’s an opportunity to bring the company’s electrical and instrumentation services, and to build client relationships here. The second opportunity lies in fiber optic services, which offer potential to the agricultural community for automation.

“It’s an incredible effort to farm. I know this, I come from a farming community,” said Sanford. “It’s incredibly important that there be monitoring capability, to ensure the most high-yield return on investment for the work that farmers do. They have to be able to monitor things, and providing wireless services for them enables them to do that remotely. It provides a level of service and moves technology into the ag sector, which is so vitally important at this time.”

The company has developed an integrated app that empowers local agricultural leaders to be able to manage their systems remotely.

CDN maintains its vision from when it started 13 years ago to do business differently, said Sanford, and remains partnership driven as the company continues to grow throughout the region. CDN focuses strongly on “an industry leading environmental, social governance platform,” said Sanford, and aims to become part of each community it enters.

In addition to its services, CDN will bring its community investment program to the region. CDN’s arrival in Medicine Hat opens the door to local sponsorships. In 2023, the company committed 1.5 per cent of its annual earnings to community investment and sponsorship initiatives, tying growth to increased support for local causes.

“It’s our opportunity to make not only investments in the service we provide for our clients, but in the difference that we make in the community by choosing exciting and dynamic community investment opportunities everywhere that we work,” said Sanford.

As part of an introduction to residents, CDN has sponsored a hot-air balloon at next week’s Rise Up Festival, starting strong with the desire to be part of local events and projects.

Medicine Hat is something of a homecoming for many of the CDN team, said Sanford, and a place they believe matches their ideals well, of “investing in people who invest in themselves,” something that has the company excited to set down roots in the city.

More information on CDN and its services can be found at the new branch location on 159 Southwest Drive SW, or at cdncontrols.ca.
