The city and its tourism services provider are closed to finalizing a new long-term contract.

Public services managing director Brian Stauth told council committee in mid-November that after a tendering processes, the current provider, the Destination Marketing Organization, and city were working on a new five-year deal to operate the city’s tourist centre and further promote the city.

“We were very pleased to get a variety of responses,” said Stauth of a ‘request for proposals’ process in the fall that garnered four responses. We’re confidently saying that one proponent understands the work and how to access grant resources to augment the budget.

“We’re quite happy to make that award.”

Stauth also informed the committee that work was underway to finalize a new contract involving an initial five-year term and a likely option for the parties to extend the term for a further five years.

The DMO has handled tourism services for the city since the mid-2010s, and was currently in an extension year of a contract that is set to conclude on Dec. 31.
