An investigation conducted by ALERT’s Medicine Hat organized crime team has resulted in the seizure of drugs and weapons with an estimated street value worth $65,000.

In early October search warrants were conducted at six homes in Brooks as part of a lengthy drug trafficking and firearms investigation that remains ongoing.

Several suspects have been identified, however no one has been formally charged as of yet.

A search of the six homes in Brooks resulted in the seizure of 762 grams of methamphetamine, 742 grams of cocaine, 159 grams of crack cocaine, as well as an undisclosed amount of illicit prescription pills and $2,000 cash.

Police also seized two handguns with 3D-printed receivers and two vehicles.

According to the Provincial Firearms Solutions Lab, a total of 52 3D or ‘ghost’ guns have been examined this year.

Police are concerned by the growing number of 3D or ‘ghost’ guns because they can be illegally acquired without a firearms licence, do not have serial numbers and are difficult to trace.

The investigation remains ongoing. Investigators are preparing reports and disclosure for Crown counsel.

This investigation dates back to April 2023 when an increase in drug trafficking activity was identified around Brooks.
