Diane Foster has spent the past three days helping children in need at the Samaritan’s Purse processing centre in Calgary for the 15th consecutive year.

Foster helped inspect shoeboxes before they were packaged for transportation to children in West Africa, Central America, Philippines and Ukraine.

The shoeboxes will be given to children between the ages of two and 14, many have never received a gift in their lives.

“Every time I see a video of children receiving shoeboxes, it’s amazing to me. It’s just so neat to see a smile on kids’ faces when they open their boxes,” says Foster.

Gift ideas for filling a shoebox include toys, school supplies, non-liquid hygiene items, crafts or a personal message, and may include a photo of yourself or your family.

There is still time for Medicine Hat residents to help a needy child.

You can visit PackaBox.ca to pack a shoebox online.
