Windows are being replaced at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church this week, and stained glass inserts are on the way as well.
“We’ll miss the look for sure, but they really weren’t very energy efficient,” said Rev. Shane Hein, who says changing the original windows at the 1955-built church is that last of four major update projects over several years.
Those included updating the hall kitchen, installing new carpet and painting the exterior.
The windows, being changed this week at the church located at 758 Eighth St. in the South Flats, are the last of the projects for a while, said Hein.
“We’re an optimistic bunch,” he said. “We’re going to be here for a while, so the congregation is doing what needs to be done.”
New ornamental coloured glass will eventually be dropped in front of the modern windows as designed by a local artist. The plan is to feature the seasons of the church calendar over 10 large side windows.
