Locals host two-day drag racing event

The Medicine Hat Drag Strip was put to use by some local race enthusiasts this past weekend.

Jarett and Shelisa Frey hosted two days of races in an annual event that has grown over the years, so much so they rent the entire track for it.

They had two races Friday, the first being a street race won by Christopher Cochrane from Buchess, Alta. Chuck Akister from Moose Jaw finished in second.

Gavin Forbes of Medicine Hat won the Friday night bike race, finishing ahead of Darcy Glasgow of Redcliff. Gerald Beatch and Darian Vine, both of Medicine Hat, finished third and fourth.

The weekend of racing wrapped up Saturday with four events.

Zac Henderson of Redcliff won the daily driver race, finishing ahead of Mark Ingold from Lethbridge.

The Klutch King race was won by Chris Hein from Maple Creek, with Raiden Higa of Lethbridge in second.

Kelly Prosser of Lashburn, Sask. took first place in the real street race. Ashton Karas of Bonnyville, Alta. coame in second.

The final race of the event, the main car race, was won by Steve Groenink from Lethbridge, who finished ahead of Russell Flaman from Regina.
