Skaters of all ages put their skills on display to celebrate Canada Day at the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association’s Beat the Heat competition.
The event certainly lived up to its moniker, with highs reaching 36C, but that didn’t stop spectators or competitors from making the most of the day.
Jayson Guenther took gold in the open cash comp, and as a result earned a trip to skate at a competition in Tampa as a representative of Beat the Heat.
Siena White won the women’s comp ahead up Makena McWilliam and Eve Seward, respectively.
Lukas Arsenau won the product comp, followed by runner-up JP Pastolero and Zach Fischer in third.
Chase Worrell won the intermediate comp, followed by Avi Assouline in second and Kian Nahaczewski in third.
Ryder Worrell took home first place in the 12 and under beginners comp, while Makena McWilliam finished second and Isaac MacMullin took third.
The event also featured bowl competitions and a Cemetery Hill Bomb race to close out the evening.
