The Medicine Hat College Rattlers indoor running team collected medals at the Alberta College’s Athletic Conference indoor track championship in Edmonton this weekend.

Becky Ross took first place in the women’s 3,000m, the first-ever win for an MHC runner in the 3,000m at the ACAC indoor track championship. Rattler teammate Madison Scrimger was eight seconds back of Ross in third place.

The MHC men’s 4 x 200m relay team, made up of Carson Schiller, Jaiden Romanuik, Brannon Sumner and Justin Jager, lined up against five other ACAC teams in the championship heat, coming away with a silver medal. The second-place finish was the first-ever top-3 placing for the Rattlers men at an ACAC Indoor Championship.

The Rattlers other top-five finishes at the provincial championships were: Sumner finishing fourth in men’s 600m, Ross placing fourth in 1,500m and fifth in 1000m, Cheldynn Molnar took fourth in 600m and the men’s team finished fourth in 4 x 400m relay.

In the team standings, the MHC women placed fourth while the men placed sixth.

Also on Sunday, the ACAC honoured its season’s best runners, with Ross being named the ACAC indoor track female rookie of the year. She also achieved ACAC All Conference status for the 2023 season. Those accolades add to her full trophy shelf from the ACAC cross-country season, where the 35-year-old was named rookie of the year, all conference and runner up in the ACAC Grand Prix.
