A Medicine Hat man is facing stolen property charges following an ALERT investigation into a rash of regional vehicle thefts.
ALERT Medicine Hat’s regional property crime unit began its investigation into the vehicle thefts in early December, according to an ALERT press release. The release states that on Dec. 7 a man was identified exiting a Ford pickup that had been reported stolen from Redcliff earlier that day.
Further investigation revealed a stolen Suzuki dirt bike as well as stolen recreational vehicles and an enclosed trailed – the total value of which is estimated to be $58,000.
Jeffrey Lawless, 37, of Medicine Hat, faces stolen property charges, as well as a breach of probation. He has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19, reads the release.
“Our regional property crime unit works hard to arrest and charge prolific property offenders,” ALERT Medicine Hat Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn says in the release. “With this latest seizure, we are now working to ensure everything is returned to its rightful owners.”
