jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb The lights will remain off in the Medicine Hat Curling Club this winter season. The club announced Sunday on their Facebook page they will not be able to operate due to poor ice conditions on multiple sheets caused by the brine lines located under the concrete slabs the ice sits on. The MHCC says in the statement they were undergoing testing performed by Gateway to determine the viability and durability of the lines. Sheets 1 and 8 were deemed completely inoperable, as well half of sheets 2 and 7 were affected. The final hammer was a test performed last weekend that several more lines under sheet 5 were not holding pressure and would not allow for proper ice to be made. In the statement club president, Bryden Smith states, “Our main goal currently is to try and be ready for our next season and investigate other options for the future. Again, we thank you for your commitment to the club over the years and we will continue to act in your best interest.” The club says anyone who has already paid membership fees for the season will be contacted to be reimbursed soon. 7
