A new weekend experience, which centres around learning through play, is coming to the Esplanade this spring.
Gallery Play takes place each Saturday from 1-3 p.m, beginning April 23 until June 11, except for May 14.
“It’s facilitated play,” Candace Lundrigan, Esplanade cultural public programmer, told the News. “It’s very responsive. It’s very flexible and more casual in nature … It’s game-based (so) it works in some learning, but it’s all done through play.”
Participants are invited to join in guided sessions, which are held at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m, or explore the gallery by themselves. Activities for a range of ages will be set up throughout the gallery, such as seek-and-find, dress-up, story time or art in the Discovery Zone.
“Our facilitator is a very experienced art instructor. She facilitates for all ages (and) is very adept at engaging all ages, so we leave it open ended,” Lundrigan said.
Gallery Play is a drop-in pay-what-you-will experience.
