Discussion and a vote on the city’s new parks and recreation plan and facilities outlook was moved to council’s next meeting on March 21 after this week’s meeting ran long on Monday.
That night, council discussed and eventually tabled a separate land-planning decision on the NW Industrial park after 10:30 p.m.
With more than half of the agenda remaining, including discussion on the 255-page parks plan, public services committee chair, Coun. Ramona Robbins moved that the master plan come back later this month.
The item itself was discussed often at length last fall and this year as administrators brought updates and a final draft plan to committee. At the same time, however, they stressed that a parallel process to evaluate how maintenance or replacement of city facilities is done was still outstanding.
That portion flowed through committee last week after an hour-long discussion among administrators and council members.
If adopted, the facilities plan would direct administrators to begin initial work on a south side swim and fitness facility, the decommissioning of Heights outdoor pool, a plan to expand Hill outdoor pool, potentially close the Hockey Hounds and Moose Rec Centre when a new twin-plex facility is built next five years.
