Aging recreation facilities throughout Medicine Hat were a topic of discussion during Monday’s public services meeting, as city officials look toward the future.

James Will, director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Medicine Hat, presented four recommendations aimed at proactive recreation planning, including the construction of a new aquatics and fitness centre, a new outdoor destination aquatics facility and a new ice multi-plex, as well as the decommission of the Heights Pool and brownfield redevelopment.

Pros and cons for each recommendation were explored during Monday’s presentation and public survey responses were heard, however the committee requested additional information, specifically regarding the outdoor aquatics facility.

The recommendations will now move to city council for direction.
