Members of the city’s Public Services Committee received an update on the Parks and Recreation Master Plan during their Monday meeting.

The master plan, which is an amalgamation of the 2010 Parks System Management Plan and the 2011 Recreation Master Plan, aims to determine how local environmental spaces and facilitates should most efficiently be managed, as well as address community needs.

While the plan has received generally positive feedback from community groups and stakeholders, said James Will, director of parks and recreation, city staff and council members agreed to hold an open session workshop to review the plan before it is adopted by council.

“It’s open and people can observe and learn more,” said councillor Ramona Robins. “(However) the purpose of the workshop is not for further public engagement, it’s really for the council to be able to ask questions and for the public to watch.”

Following the workshop the master plan will need to be adopted by council before it can be brought into action. A date for the workshop is yet to be determined.
