Medicine Hat Brewing Company recently announced a new program that will help bring awareness to and raise funds for local charities.
The Medicine Hat Brewing Company Cheers! Program is an initiative launching this month. The program “is a new way of giving back to our community,” MHBC explained in an email to the News.
“This program is designed to help registered charities and organizations that need a bit of extra support, awareness and funds.”
Each month, the company will choose one registered charity or organization.
“We’re starting off, we’re making the announcement either today or tomorrow about the first charity we’re going with,” said Kaiden Vancuren, one of the co-owners of MHBC and general manager of the brewery side. “We’re starting off this month and we’re going to do the full 12 months. I assume we will do this year after year!”
Vancuren said to stay tuned to Medicine Hat Brewing Company’s social media for the announcement to find out what charity they will be supporting first and in the coming months.
Funds will be raised for the chosen charity a few different ways, including a donation box at their location.
“We’re going to pick a new, different food item each month and then allocate a certain percent of sales of that food item for the whole month,” Vancuren explained. “We do a cask, it’s a 40-litre keg of specialty beer that we make. We do that the third Friday of every month. 100% of the proceeds of the actual cask are going to go towards the charity as well.”
Cask night in January for the selected charity will be on Friday, Jan. 21.
Vancuren said the support of the community is part of what inspired the initiation of the program.
“We just had our five-year anniversary on Dec. 10 of last year, and it still amazes us how the community supports us and we are still growing, year after year. We are definitely further ahead than we thought we’d be at five years, and we definitely attribute it to the city and the support they’ve given us,” said Vancuren. “We put our heads together and thought about the best way to spend our time and money and give back to the city and we came up with this program. We think it’s going to be great. We’ve gotten a lot of support on social media already so we hope it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.”
