Canada’s Einarson thumps Australia 11-2 in women’s world curling championship

CALGARY — Canada’s Kerri Einarson has defeated Australia 11-2 in the women’s world curling championship.
Australia shook hands after six ends. Canadian alternate Krysten Karwacki made her tournament debut by drawing into the game in the fifth end for lead Karlee Burgess.
Five countries – Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Sweden and South Korea – have claimed playoff berths with the sixth and final spot to be determined in the evening.
Canada was to face Japan at night with a semifinal bye at stake in the final draw of round-robin play.
The top two teams at the conclusion of pool play earn direct entry into Saturday’s semifinals. The remaining four square off earlier that day to join them.
The medal games are Sunday.
