Canada’s Einarson loses first game in women’s world curling, falls 6-5 to Switzerland

CALGARY — Kerri Einarson’s Canadian curling team dropped its first game of the women’s world championship with a 6-5 loss in an extra end to Switzerland on Tuesday night.

The Swiss improved to 6-1 with a sixth straight win to top the standings. Canada fell to 5-1. South Korea and Sweden were both 5-2.

Canada scored its first deuce of the game in the 10th end to pull even at 5-5 and force an extra end, but couldn’t generate a steal for the win.

Canada’s next opponents are Turkey and Scotland, with both games Wednesday.

The top six teams at the conclusion of pool play advance to Friday playoffs.

The top two gain direct entry in Saturday’s semifinals. The medal games are Sunday.
