Edmonton, Calgary and Prague to co-host the 2028 World Cup of Hockey tournament

By Canadian Press on March 16, 2026.

EDMONTON — The World Cup of Hockey will be held in Canada and Czechia in 2028.

The NHL and NHLPA say that Edmonton, Calgary and Prague will serve as co-hosts of the eight-team tournament in February of that year.

The tournament made its debut in 1996 and was last played in 2016 in Toronto.

The World Cup’s return comes after NHL players competed at the Winter Olympics last month for the first time since 2014.

The new 4 Nations Faceoff tournament last winter also featured a best-on-best setup.
