Ottawa Senators acquire winger Warren Foegele from Los Angeles Kings

By Canadian Press on March 5, 2026.

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators have acquired forward Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings a day before the NHL trade deadline.

The Senators announced Thursday that they’re sending a 2026 second-round draft pick previously acquired from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for the 29-year-old winger.

The two teams will also swap conditional third-round selections.

The Senators will receive the worse of the Kings’ or Dallas Stars’ third-round picks in 2026, while Los Angeles will get the better of Ottawa’s or the Washington Capitals’ third-round pick this year. If neither Ottawa nor Washington makes the playoffs, the Senators will instead send the worse of those two picks to the Kings.

Foegele had seven goals and two assists in 47 games for the Kings this season, his second in Los Angeles. He posted career-highs of 24 goals and 46 points across 82 games last season.

The six-foot-two, 205-pound product of Markham, Ont., is under contract at a US$3.5-million salary through the 2026-27 campaign.

Drafted by Carolina in the third round, 67th overall, at the 2014 NHL draft, Foegele played in parts of four seasons with the Hurricanes before he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 2021. Foegele then played three seasons in the Alberta capital before leaving for Los Angeles via free agency in 2024.

The move adds depth up front for the Senators (29-22-9), who sat six points behind the Boston Bruins for the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot heading into Thursday’s games.
