VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Jack Thompson from the San Jose Sharks for fellow defenceman Jett Woo, the NHL club announced Thursday.

Thompson, 23, had 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and a plus-13 rating in 42 games for the American Hockey League’s San Jose Barracuda this season.

The six-foot-one, 189-pound blueliner from Courtice, Ont., has registered 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 34 career NHL games with the Sharks and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Thompson has added a total of 91 points (20 goals, 71 assists) over 203 AHL games with the Barracuda and Syracuse Crunch. Originally selected by Tampa Bay with the 93rd pick at the 2020 NHL draft, he helped Canada win gold at the 2022 world junior hockey championship.

The 25-year-old Woo was picked 37th overall by Vancouver in 2018.

The Winnipeg product had 21 goals and 62 assists in 267 games with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, including last season’s Calder Cup-winning campaign.
