CORTINA D’AMPEZZO — Competition begins today at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, two days before the opening ceremony.
Canada’s Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman, a husband-and-wife team from Chestermere, Alta., open the mixed doubles curling tournament against Czechia in Cortina.
Canada is aiming to return to the podium in mixed doubles after missing out on a medal at the 2022 Beijing Games.
Men’s alpine skiing also gets underway today, with downhill training scheduled in Bormio.
Several sports traditionally begin competition ahead of the opening ceremony because of scheduling demands.
The opening ceremony will be held Friday in Milan.
