A look at NorthStar, Canada’s entry in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship:
Owner: Greg Bailey. The Toronto native, a former emergency physician, is co-founder of
biotech company Juvenescence, a clinical-stage drug development company “dedicated to extending healthy lifespan through innovative medicines.” Acquired the team ahead of the 2025 season.
Chief Executive Officer: Phil Kennard. Took over as CEO and team principal in September 2024. The English native, a former United Kingdom champion in the 49er Class, previously worked for the PGA Tour, America’s Cup challenger Athena Racing and in Formula One with Williams and Lotus (now Alpine).
Driver: Giles Scott. The two-time Olympic champion from England joined NorthStar at the start of the 2025 season from Emirates Great Britain, where he had been driver since midway Season 4. The America’s Cup veteran won gold in the Finn Class at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics. Also holds a Canadian passport.
Flight Controller: Billy Gooderham. The native of Caledon, Ont., is a three-time Canadian 49er champion, as well as 2009 49er North American champion.
Wing Trimmer: Paul Campbell-James. The Briton, a licensed pilot who holds a ship science aeronautical engineering degree from the University of Southampton, has America’s Cup experience. In a 2021 practice race, he managed to save his boat from capsizing before being ejected out of his cockpit, breaking his leg.
Strategist: Annie Haeger, a Vancouver-based American married to former Canadian Olympic sailor Luke Ramsay. A six-time U.S. champion — and U.S. Sailor of the Year in 2015 — she competed at the 2016 Olympics in the 470 Class.
Grinder: Tom Ramshaw. A Toronto native, he competed in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics in the Finn Class. Named 2018 Canadian Rolex Sailor of the Year. Hosts NorthStar’s “Pursuing Polaris” podcast.
Grinder: Tim Hornsby. An American who lives in Halifax, he was an Olympic kayaker before switching to sailing and competed in the 2012 Olympics in the men’s K-1 200 metres. Has competed in the America’s Cup.
Grinder: Alex Sinclair. An American, he competed for the U.S. in SailGP’s Seasons 2-4 and Red Bull Italy in 2025, before moving to NorthStar for the 2026 season. Married to an Italian, he splits his time between Naples, Italy, and Antigua.
Coach; Joe Glanfield. The Briton won silver at both the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics with Nick Rogers in the 470 class. He was fourth in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
Reserve Athlete: Ali Ten Hove. The native of Kinston, Ont., teamed up with Mariah Millen to compete in Skiff (49er FX) in the 2020 Olympics.
Reserve Athlete: Nicolas Rolaz, Switzerland. Competed for the Switzerland SailGP team. Also has America’s Cup experience.
