Fontaine, Thénault finish fourth as Canada held off podium at World Cup aerials event

LAC-BEAUPORT — Miha Fontaine and Marion Thénault finished a distant fourth in their respective events event as Canadian freestyle skiers were held off the podium on home turf Wednesday to end a World Cup aerials competition.

Fontaine, from Magog, Que., finished the men’s event with a score of 103.27 points.

China’s Sun Jiaxu, who was second in Tuesday’s men’s event, soared to gold with a score of 131.58. Li Tianma, also of China, was second with 124.95 and Switzerland’s Noe Roth was third with 122.91.

Thénault finished the women’s event with a score of 72.26 points, well behind the score of 97.02 put up by Chinese bronze medallist Xu Mengtao.

The skier from Sherbrooke, Que., had picked up her fourth medal of the season with a silver Tuesday in Lac-Beauport.

New Zealand’s Laura Peel easily claimed the gold medal with a score of 113.76. American Winter Vinecki, who won Tuesday’s event, was second with 109.9 points.
