Kadri nets SO winner as Flames hold off Stars for 3-2 victory

By Canadian Press on November 22, 2025.

CALGARY — Nazem Kadri scored the deciding goal in the shootout and Devin Cooley made 28 stops as the Calgary Flames won 3-2 over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night..

Matt Coronato and Joel Farabee scored in regulation for Calgary (7-13-3), which improved to 4-1-1 in their last six home games.

Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz scored for Dallas (13-5-4). Robertson extended his goal streak to a career best-tying six games during which he’s lit the lamp 10 times. He leads the team with 13 on the season.

Casey DeSmith had 31 saves in the loss. DeSmith is 4-0-2 since losing his first start of the season on Oct. 16.

With each team scoring once through the first three shooters, Kadri put Calgary in front when he went forehand to backhand on a deke and tucked the puck under the crossbar.

Cooley stopped Hintz to clinch the win.

Dallas right-winger Mikko Rantanen was ejected in the final minute of the second period when he checked Coronato heavily into the side boards from behind, leaving the Flames forward bleeding heavily from his face.

It’s the second boarding major and game misconduct in a span of six periods for Rantanen. He was also tossed in the final minute of Tuesday’s loss to the New York Islanders for a hit on Alexander Romanov.

Rantanen now leads the NHL with 57 penalty minutes, five more than Washington’s Tom Wilson.

Throwing off his gloves immediately in Coronato’s defence after the Rantanen hit was Jonathan Huberdeau, whose scrap with Rantanen was his first fighting major since he fought Paul Byron during the 2018-19 pre-season.

Takeaways

Stars: Dallas extended its points streak on the road to eight games (5-0-3). The Stars last lost in regulation on the road on Oct. 18. Having his three-game winning streak snapped was DeSmith, but he has points in each of his last six starts.

Flames: Coronato’s first period power-play goal extended his goal streak to a career-best four games. After being stitched up, Coronato returned to the game a few minutes into the third period. Rasmus Andersson extended his point streak to four games (two goals, five assists).

Key moment

After Hintz tied it at 16:53 of the third, Calgary took consecutive penalties – MacKenzie Weegar for delay of game, John Beecher for tripping – giving Dallas’ No. 2-ranked power play a 1:22 two-man advantage, but the Flames hung on to get the game to extra time.

Key stat

Robertson’s 10 goals during his six-game goal streak matches the 10 goals he had during his first six-game goal streak from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1, 2022. Dino Ciccarelli (11 goals in 19830-84) was the only player in franchise history to score more during a six-game stretch (11 in 1983-84).

Up next

Stars: Are off until Tuesday when they take on the Edmonton Oilers.

Flames: Open a five-game road trip against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.
