TORONTO — Several major landmarks across Canada will be lit up yellow tomorrow as part of motionball’s #NoGoodWay Day.
Motionball is a national non-profit that raises funds and awareness for the Special Olympics.
The national anti-bullying campaign hopes to discourage people from using the “R-word” — a slur rooted in outdated medical terminology and now considered derogatory toward people with intellectual disabilities — and instead use more inclusive language when speaking about people with intellectual disabilities.
The CN Tower, Ottawa’s ByWard Market, Vancouver’s Science World, Winnipeg’s Princess Auto Stadium and the Clock Tower in Mississauga, Ont., are some of the locations that will be lit yellow.
According to motionball, one in 10 Canadians live with some kind of intellectual disability.
Motionball is also asking Canadians to share photos or videos of themselves wearing yellow on social media tomorrow in solidarity with #NoGoodWay Day.
