Dodgers take 2-1 lead in World Series with 6-5 win in 18 innings over Jays

By Canadian Press on October 28, 2025.

LOS ANGELES — Freddie Freeman hit a Brendon Little offering over the centre field fence in the 18th inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 6-5 win and a 2-1 lead in the 2025 World Series on Monday night.

Freeman’s hit, the 16th of the night for the defending champions, ended a six-hour-plus marathon at Dodger Stadium.

The victory was made possible by Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, who had two home runs, two doubles, three RBIs and five walks, including four intentional.

Game 4 in the best-of-seven Fall Classic will be played Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

After solo home runs by Teoscar Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani gave the defending champion Dodgers a 2-0 lead, catcher Alejandro Kirk hit a three-run homer in the top of the fourth to put the Blue Jays ahead 3-2. They added a fourth run in the inning when a Andres Gimenez sacrifice fly drove home Addison Barger.

The Dodgers tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Ohtani hit an RBI double to score Enrique Hernandez, and then Freddie Freeman had an RBI single to score Ohtani.

Jays starter Max Scherzer, making his 27th post-season start, left the game after 4 1/3 innings with the Jays ahead 4-2. He gave up five hits, three runs, one walk and two home runs. He had three strikeouts. He was replaced by Mason Fluharty, who allowed two hits and a run.

Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow left the game after 4 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits, four runs, one home run run and three walks. He struck out five batters.

Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer was pulled in the seventh inning after fouling off a pitch in the seventh inning.

Springer immediately grabbed at his right side and asked for the trainer to come out of the dugout.

He was replaced by infielder Ty France, who struck out against Dodgers left-hander Justin Wrobleski. The game was tied 4-4 at the time.

Springer has battled a number of injuries this post-season. He was hit by a pitch in the wrist area in Game 2 at Toronto on Saturday.

He was also hit in the knee by a pitch in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.
