WHL roundup: Oil Kings drill visiting Warriors 4-1

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oil Kings built a 4-0 lead halfway through the game and then hung on to beat the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 4-1 in Western Hockey League action on Saturday.

Poul Anderson, Miroslav Holinka, Cage Smith and Andrew O’Neill scored for the Oil Kings (6-2-0-0), who led 1-0 after the first period and 4-1 heading into the third at Rogers Place.

Kash Andresen scored for the Warriors (4-3-1-0), who were outshot 45-17 and were 0-for-4 on the power play.

Goaltender Parker Snell stopped 16 of 17 shots for the Oil Kings, who were 0-for-5 on the power play.

Kyle Jones stopped 41 of 45 shots for the Warriors.

GIANTS 4 PATS 1

REGINA, Sask. — Tobias Tomik had a goal and assist, Tyus Sparks had two assists, and the visiting Vancouver Giants knocked off the Regina Pats 4-1.

Cameron Schmidt, Blake Chorney and Ty Halaburda (empty-netter) also scored for the Giants (3-6-0-0), who outshot the hosts 32-12.

Cohen Klassen scored for the Pats (1-5-0-0), who got a 28-save performance from netminder Marek Schlenker.

Burke Hood stopped 11 of 12 shots for the Giants, who went 0-for-1 on the power play.

The Pats were 0-for-3 on the power play.

SILVERTIPS 2 ROYALS 1 (OT)

VICTORIA, B.C. — Tarin Smith scored 1:38 into overtime to lift the visiting Everett Silvertips to a 2-1 win over the Victoria Royals.

Julius Miettinen also scored for the Silvertips (7-0-1-0), who went 1-for-2 on the power play.

Ashton Brown scored at 16:51 of the third period to tie the game for the Royals (3-2-2-0) and force the OT session. The Royals were 0-for-6 on the power play.

The Silvertips outshot the Royals 38-23.

Netminder Ethan Eskit stopped 36 of 38 shots for the Royals, while Raiden LeGall stopped 22 of 23 for the Silvertips.

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Talon Brigley and Landon MacSwain each had a goal and assist, and netminder Chase Wutzke made 19 saves as the visiting Red Deer Rebels blitzed the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-0.

Samuel Drancak, Arjun Bawa and Noah Milford also scored for the Rebels (2-6-0-0), who led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 heading into the third.

Netminder Leif Oaten stopped 31 of 36 shots for the Hurricanes (2-7-0-0).

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Terik Parascak scored twice and netminder Alexander Levshyn made 25 saves as the Prince George Cougars edged the visiting Tri-City Americans 3-2.

Aiden Foster also scored for the Cougars (5-1-0-0), who outshot the visitors 36-27 and went 1-for-2 on the power play.

Cruz Pavao and Crew Martinson scored for the Americans (1-5-0-0), who were 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

Netminder Ryan Grout stopped 33 of 36 shots for the Americans.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll had a goal and assist, Carter Casey made 31 saves, and the Medicine Hat Tigers whipped the visiting Portland Winterhawks 5-0.

Riley Steen, Misha Volotovskii, Kade Stengrim and Bryce Pickford also scored for the Tigers (6-2-0-0), who went 2-for-5 on the power play. Liam Ruck chipped in with two assists.

Cruz Chase stopped 32 of 37 shots for the Winterhawks (3-4-0-0), who trailed 3-0 after the first period and 4-0 heading into the third.

SASKATOON, Sask. — Jordan Martin had a goal and assist, Evan Gardner made 32 saves and the Saskatoon Blades blanked the visiting Kamloops Blazers 3-0.

Zach Olsen and David Lewandowski also scored for the Blades (7-2-0-0), who led 3-0 after the first period.

Netminder Logan Edmonstone stopped 24 of 27 shots for the Blazers (3-4-0-0), who went 0-for-5 on the power play.

PENTICTON, B.C. — Matteo Danis scored three goals and Callum Stone chipped in with three assists as the Penticton Vees beat the visiting Kelowna Rockets 5-3.

Brittan Alstead and Chase Valliant also scored for the Vees (5-2-0-1), who trailed 2-0 after the first period and 3-2 heading into the third.

Owen Folstrom, Dawson Gerwing and Tomas Poletin scored for the Rockets (3-3-0-0), who were outshot 34-30.

The Vees were 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Rockets went 1-for-2.

SEATTLE, Wash. — Ethan Hughes scored the winning goal on a late second period power play as the visiting Spokane Chiefs slipped past the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1.

Mathis Preston also scored for the Chiefs (4-3-0-0), who outshot the hosts 35-21.

Brayden Holberton scored for the Thunderbirds (3-4-0-0), who were 0-for-5 on the power play.

Netminder Grayson Malinoski stopped 33 of 35 shots for the T-Birds, while Carter Esler stopped 20 of 21 shots for the Chiefs.
