Dunstone hands McEwen first loss at PointsBet Invitational curling event

CALGARY — Matt Dunstone handed Mike McEwen his first loss of the PointsBet Invitational curling tournament on Saturday, with a 9-3 victory in Draw 7.

Dunstone was one spot back of McEwen (3-1) in Pool B’s standings entering the day with a 2-1 record.

With a 4-1 lead through five ends, Dunstone’s team scored three points in the sixth and two more in the eighth as McEwen’s rink conceded the final two ends.

In the other men’s games, Kevin Koe (2-1) defeated Calan MacIsaac (0-4) 7-3 and Rylan Kleiter (1-3) topped Sam Mooibroek (0-3) 7-1.

In women’s action, Corryn Brown (4-0) remained atop Pool B with a 10-5 victory over Kayla Skrlik (0-3) and Beth Peterson (2-2) downed Kaitlyn Lawes (2-2) 11-5.

The men’s and women’s PointsBet fields of 10 teams aside is divided into two pools. The top team in each pool meets in the championship games of the event that offers a prize purse of $300,000.
