Fourfold increase in prize money for women’s ODI Cricket World Cup

By Canadian Press on September 1, 2025.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The International Cricket Council has announced prize money of $13.88 million for the upcoming women’s ODI World Cup, almost a fourfold increase from the previous tournament.

The 2022 women’s World Cup in New Zealand had an overall prize purse of $3.5 million while the men’s ODI World Cup in India, two years ago, had prize money of $10 million.

“This four-fold increase in prize money is a landmark moment for women’s cricket and reflects our clear commitment to its long-term growth,” ICC Chairman Jay Shah said in a statement on Monday.

“Our message is simple, women cricketers must know they will be treated on par with men if they choose this sport professionally. Women’s cricket is on a remarkable upward trajectory, and with this step we are confident the momentum will accelerate.”

The 2025 women’s Cricket World Cup starts on Sept. 30 when India takes on Sri Lanka in the opening game at Guwahati.

The winner of the 13th edition of women’s ODI World Cup will receive $4.48 million while the runners-up will get $2.24 million. The two losing semifinalists will be awarded $1.12million each while the group-stage competitors will earn a guaranteed $250,000.

For every game won during the group-stage competition, the teams will receive a further $34,314. At the competition of group stage, fifth and sixth placed teams will be awarded $700,000 each while seventh and eighth placed teams will get $280,000 each.

“The uplift (in prize money) underscores our ambition to deliver a world-class ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup and to inspire the next generation of players and fans,” Shah said.
