Japan’s Akie Iwai has three-stroke lead after second round of CPKC Women’s Open

MISSISSAUGA — Japan’s Akie Iwai has tightened her grip on the lead at the CPKC Women’s Open.
She held a two-stroke lead heading into play on Friday morning and shot a 2-under 69 to stay ahead of the pack.
Australia’s Minjee Lee (66), Ireland’s Leona Maguire (70) and world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul (70) shared second at 6-under overall, three shots back of Iwai.
Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., stormed 33 spots up the leaderboard after shooting a 66 to sit in a tie for fifth at 5-under overall.
The projected cut line at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club was 1-over par.
Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, a 15-year-old amateur, was the low Canadian after the first round. She shot a 2-over 73 on Friday to drop into a tie for 15th at 3 under.
