Panthers beat Oilers 5-1 to repeat as Stanley Cup champions

By Canadian Press on June 17, 2025.

SUNRISE — The Edmonton Oilers stumbled at the final hurdle for a second straight June.

Sam Reinhart scored four goals, including two into the empty net, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves as Florida topped Edmonton 5-1 in Game 6 to win the franchise’s second consecutive Stanley Cup on Tuesday night.

The Panthers also beat the Oilers in seven games to capture their first-ever title last June.

Florida accomplished the feat in one fewer contest this time around after nearly blowing a 3-0 lead in the NHL’s title series 12 months ago.

The Oilers are the first team to lose consecutive finals to the same team since the Boston Bruins fell to the Montreal Canadiens in both 1977 and 1978.

Montreal was the last Canadian club to hoist the Cup back in 1993.
