Proline players behind Oilers winning Stanley Cup series opener

AURORA — The Stanley Cup championship series is finally poised to begin, and Proline bettors see a victorious start for the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton and Florida were slated to open their best-of-seven final Wednesday night, with 67 per cent of Proline players backing an Oilers victory. Eighty per cent have Edmonton on the puckline -1.5 with 56 per cent taking the over at 6.5.

However, just 31 per cent see Edmonton winning the series in six games.

The two teams also met in last year’s final, with Florida winning in seven games. The championship rematch is the NHL’s first since 2009, when Pittsburgh defeated Detroit a year after the Red Wings were victorious.

Meanwhile, the NBA championship final begins Thursday night with the Oklahoma City Thunder facing the Indiana Pacers. This marks the Thunder’s first final appearance since 2012, when the team lost to the Miami Heat.

Indiana is in the championship for the first time since 2000, when the Pacers fell to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Four Canadians are in the final, with two on each team. NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, of Hamilton, Ont., and Montreal’s Luguentz Dort are with the Thunder while Andrew Nembhard, Aurora, Ont, and Montreal’s Bennedict Mathurin are suiting up for Indiana.

Just 51 per cent of Proline players are backing Indiana to win the series opener on the road. Another 57 per cent have the Pacers covering the spread at +9.5 with 62 per cent taking the over at 230.5.

However, 47 per cent of bettors are backing the Thunder to take the series in six games

A Proline digital player won $559.13 from a $1.21 bet on a 10-pick baseball parlay. A retail customer earned $913.30 from a $2 bet on an eight-pick baseball parlay.
