INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen hired three new assistants Friday, bringing James Bettcher back to the franchise as linebackers coach, Jerome Henderson as defensive backs coach and Chris Hewitt as passing game coordinator for the secondary. The Colts also announced that last season’s coaching fellows — Isabel Diaz, Kalon Humphries and Diego Ortiz — will return in the same capacities next season. The team still plans to announce one more coaching fellow. Indy also promoted Leigh Hullett to director of performance nutrition. Bettcher has been coaching for 21 seasons, including 2012 when he was a special assistant to then-Colts coach Chuck Pagano. He spent the past three seasons as the Cincinnati Bengals’ linebackers coach under new Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. Henderson has spent two decades coaching in the NFL, including the last five seasons working with the New York Giants’ secondary. He played in two Super Bowls after New England initially selected him in the second round of the 1991 NFL draft. Hewitt spent all 13 of his previous NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, the last five as a passing game coordinator. Diaz will continue working with Indy’s special teams, Humphries will working with the Colts defense and Ortiz will continue working with the offense. Hullett just completed her third season as the team’s dietitian. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL The Associated Press 13
