CALGARY – American speedskating star Jordan Stolz won the men’s 1,500 metres race at Calgary’s World Cup event Friday night.
A six-time world champion at the age of 20, Stolz set a track record of one minute 41.22 seconds at the Olympic Oval.
The skater from West Bend, Wisc., is undefeated in the 1,500, 1,000 and 500 metres so far this season. Stolz won those three distances in last year’s world championship here.
Dutch women finished one-two in the women’s 5,000 metres.
Reigning world champion Joy Beune took gold and Merel Conijn won silver. Ottawa’s Isabelle Weidemann finished fifth.
Japan’s Miho Takagi won the women’s 1,000 metres.
Racing continues Saturday and Sunday in the third World Cup of the season.
