WHL roundup: Pats pad lead then hang on to beat Blades 4-3

REGINA – The Regina Pats took a 3-0 lead into the third period and then hung on to beat the visiting Saskatoon Blades 4-3 in Western Hockey League action on Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

Aleksey Chichkin, Caden Brown, Dayton Deschamps and Zach Moore scored for the Pats (8-17-3-2), who were outshot 27-26, including 14-9 in the final period.

Isaac Poll, Ben Riche and Tyler Parr scored for the East Division-leading Blades (17-9-2-2). Brandon Lisowsky chipped in with two assists.

The teams were tied 0-0 after the first period and the Pats took a 3-0 lead into the third.

The Blades went 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Pats were 1-for-3.

TIGERS 5 WARRIORS 1

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Ryder Ritchie scored a goal and added two assists as the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers pounced on the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-1.

Andrew Basha, Hunter St. Martin, Jonas Woo and Bryce Pickford also scored for the Central Division-leading Tigers (18-13-1-0), who outshot the Warriors 48-26.

Aiden Ziprick scored for the Warriors (6-19-3-1), who trailed 2-0 after the first period and 4-1 heading into the third.

Both teams went 1-for-4 on the power play.

HURRICANES 4 REBELS 1

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The Lethbridge Hurricanes scored a short-handed goal, power-play goal and empty-netter en route to a 4-1 win over the visiting Red Deer Rebels.

Brayden Edwards, Trae Johnson, Hayden Pakkala and Logan Wormald scored for the Hurricanes (16-10-1-1), who outshot the visitors 29-16.

Trae Wilke scored for the Rebels (14-13-1-2), who were tied 1-1 after the first period and 1-1 heading into the third.

HITMEN 5 BLAZERS 4 (OT)

CALGARY, Alta. – Carter Yakemchuk’s goal at 2:09 of overtime lifted the Calgary Hitmen to a 5-4 win over the visiting Kamloops Blazers.

Kalem Parker, Connor Hvidston, Axel Hurtig and Ben Kindel also scored for the Hitmen (15-9-3-1), who outshot the Blazers 40-32. Maxim Muranov, David Adaszynski and Oliver Tulk each chipped in with two assists.

Nathan Behm, Max Sullivan, Jordan Keller and Tommy Lafreniere scored for the Blazers (12-16-2-0). Emmitt Finnie had two assists.

The Blazers led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 heading into the third.

ROYALS 4 GIANTS 0

VICTORIA, B.C. – Teydon Trembecky, Keaton Verhoeff and Cole Reschny each had a goal and assist as the Victoria Royals defeated the visiting Vancouver Giants 4-0.

Tanner Scott also scored for the Royals (16-10-3-2), who led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 heading into the third.

The Royals outshot the Giants 30-16 and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Giants (13-12-4-0) were 0-for-5 on the power play.

WINTERHAWKS 4 COUGARS 1

PORTLAND, Ore. – Josh Zakreski scored three goals and Tyson Jugnauth and Diego Buttazzoni each had two assists as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the visiting Prince George Cougars 4-1.

Kayd Ruedig also scored for the Winterhawks (16-12-2-0), who led 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 heading into the third.

Borya Valis scored for the B.C. Division-leading Cougars (16-9-3-2), who outshot the Winterhawks 40-34.

AMERICANS 6 ROCKETS 3

KENNEWICK, Wash. – Savin Virk scored twice and Jordan Gavin and Jake Sloan had a goal and two assists as the Tri-City Americans defeated the visiting Kelowna Rockets 6-3.

Gavin Garland and Brandon Whynott also scored for the Americans (19-6-2-1), who outshot the visitors 34-19.

Kalder Varga, Kayden Longley and Max Graham scored for the Rockets (13-12-2-1), who led 1-0 after the first period but trailed 3-1 heading into the third.

WILD 3 SILVERTIPS 2

EVERETT, Wash. – Dawson Seitz’s power-play goal at 13:44 of the third period snapped a 2-2 deadlock and lifted the visiting Wenatchee Wild to a 3-2 victory over the Everett Silvertips.

Evan Friesen and Miles Cooper also scored for the Wild (10-16-3-1). Kent Isogai chipped in with two assists.

Eric Jamieson and Jesse Heslop scored for the Silvertips (24-5-2-1), who outshot the visitors 40-22.

CHIEFS 4 THUNDERBIRDS 3

SEATTLE, Wash. – Asanali Sarkenov scored twice as the visiting Spokane Chiefs edged the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3.

Saige Weinstein and Brody Gillespie also scored for the Chiefs (22-9-0-0), who outshot the T-Birds 42-16.

Nathan Pilling, Braeden Cootes and Coster Dunn scored for the Thunderbirds (11-18-2-1), who led 2-1 after the first period but trailed 4-2 heading into the third.
