Vegas defenceman Pietrangelo to have hearing after slash on Oilers’ Draisaitl

By The Canadian Press on May 11, 2023.

NEW YORK – Vegas defenceman Alex Pietrangelo will have a hearing today with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for slashing Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl in Game 4 of their Western Conference semifinal.

The department confirmed the hearing via a post on Twitter, a day after the Oilers beat the visiting Golden Knights 4-1 to even the best-of-seven series at two games apiece.

Pietrangelo delivered a two-handed slash to the upper arm of the Edmonton star late in the third period.

The 33-year-old blueliner was given a five-minute major penalty for slashing and a game misconduct. Draisaitl was down on the ice for a few seconds but did not appear to be seriously hurt.

After the game, Oilers teammate Connor McDavid said he’d like to see the play reviewed since he felt there was an intent to injure.

Game 5 is scheduled for Friday night at T-Mobile Arena.
