WHL roundup: Pats and Bedard pack rink, beat host Blades 4-2

SASKATOON – More than 15,000 fans filed into SaskTel Centre on Sunday to watch Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats play the surging Saskatoon Blades.

Bedard, who entered the Saskatchewan showdown with 69 goals and 140 points, had a goal and assist as the visiting Pats recorded a 4-2 Western Hockey League victory. Most pundits expect the WHL’s goals and assists leader to be the No. 1 pick in this summer’s NHL entry draft.

Alexander Suzdalev, Tanner Howe and Brayden Barnett also scored for the Pats (34-28-3-1), who were outshot 43-22.

Brandon Lisowsky scored twice for the Blades (46-15-4-1).

ICE 6 RAIDERS 1

WINNIPEG, Man. – Zack Ostapchuk and Owen Pederson each scored twice as the Winnipeg ICE rolled over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders 6-1.

Graham Sward and Ben Zloty also scored for the ICE (55-9-1-0), who led 1-0 after the first period and 3-1 heading into the third. Matthew Savoie chipped in with two assists.

Carter Anderson scored for the Raiders (27-36-3-0), who were outshot 47-30.

HITMEN 4 TIGERS 3

CALGARY, Alta. – The Calgary Hitmen scored three unanswered goals in the third period to rally and defeat the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3.

Sean Tschigerl, Oliver Tulk, Brandon Whynott and Carson Wetsch scored for the Hitmen (29-28-5-3), who trailed 3-1 until the five-minute mark of the third period.

Brendan Lee, Gavin McKenna and Bogdans Hodass scored for the Tigers (28-28-8-1), who outshot the Hitmen 29-25.

AMERICANS 5 GIANTS 2

KENNEWICK, Wash. – Adam Mechura and Jake Sloan each scored twice as the Tri-City Americans defeated the visiting Vancouver Giants 5-2.

Ethan Ernst also scored for the Americans (32-26-5-3), who received two-assist efforts from Lukas Dragicevic and Alex Serraglio.

Skyler Bruce and Ty Thorpe, with his 37th of the season, scored for the Giants (26-31-5-3), who trailed 3-1 after the first period and 5-2 entering the third.

CHIEFS 3 SILVERTIPS 2

SPOKANE, Wash. – Chase Bertholet scored twice and the Spokane Chiefs built a 3-1 lead and then hung on to beat the visiting Everett Silvertips 3-2.

Berkly Catton also scored for the Chiefs (15-42-4-5), who led 2-0 after the first period and led 2-0 heading into the third.

Jackson Berezowski and Raphael Pelletier scored for the Silvertips (32-31-2-1).
