BAKURIANI, Georgia – Megan Oldham won the silver medal in women’s slopestyle competition Tuesday at the world freestyle skiing championships.

Oldham, from Parry Sound, Ont., scored 87.75 on her second and final run to finish just behind winner Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland.

Gremaud’s score of 87.95 points on her first run stood as the winning mark, while Johanne Killi of Norway finished third with 84.71 points.

It was Oldham’s best result at a world championships. She finished third in slopestyle in 2021.

In the men’s competition, Max Moffatt of Caledon, Ont., finished fourth with a score of 82.80.

He was sitting in third place until Norway’s Birk Ruud scored 90.75 on his run to the gold medal.

Norway’s Christian Nummedal (87.08) took silver and Switzerland’s Andri Ragettli (84.33) claimed bronze.

The slopestyle qualifiers got underway on Monday after twice being postponed on the weekend. Oldham took third place in the qualifiers with a score of 79.65 and was third after the first run of Tuesday’s big final with 80.88.

“It was a difficult week because of the weather, so I’m really happy with my result,” Oldham said. “It was very windy, so I tried to stay focused during training and work on the things I could control. Luckily, it’s nice out today, and I was able to pull it all together and put down a good run.”

OIdham was the only Canadian in the women’s final. Evan McEachran of Oakville, Ont., (seventh) and Ottawa’s Noah Porter MacLennan (10th) joined Moffatt in the men’s final.

The skiers will be back on the slopes on Friday for the big air qualifiers.
