Chandler Worthy signs contract extension with the Montreal Alouettes

American receiver/returner Chandler Worthy signed a two-year contract extension with the Montreal Alouettes on Wednesday.

Worthy was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 14.

The five-foot-eight, 177-pound Worthy had 47 punt returns for 547 yards (11.6-yard average) in 15 regular-season games last season. He also had 51 kickoff returns _ taking two back for touchdowns – for 1,220 yards (23.9-yard average).

Worthy joined the Alouettes after spending time with the Toronto Argonauts (2017-2021).

“I know Chandler well having played him a few times and I can confirm that we have an electrifying player on our hands,” Alouettes head coach Jason Maas in a statement. “With one play, he can change the outcome of a game.

“Opposing teams have to be ready when he is on the field.”

Montreal also signed American receiver Keshunn Abram.

Elks shore up defensive line by adding Leonard, re-signing Rector

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Elks signed defensive linemen A.C. Leonard and Christian Rector.

Both players are American.

Leonard joins the Elks after spending the last three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who released Leonard on Tuesday. Leonard had 33 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble in 13 games last year.

In 97 regular-season CFL games, Leonard has 234 tackles, 39 sacks, an interception and six forced fumbles.

Rector, 25, returns for a third season with the Elks. He appeared in eight games last year, recording 13 tackles and three sacks.

Rector was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 14.
