OHL roundup: Colts bid 2022 farewell with offensive fireworks

BARRIE, Ont. – Ethan Cardwell and Evan Vierling each had two goals and two assists and Anson Thornton stopped 38 shots to post the shutout as the Barrie Colts bid farewell to 2022 with their own offensive fireworks in crushing the Guelph Storm 8-0 in Ontario Hockey League action on Saturday.

Adding singles for the Colts (17-9-4-2) were Jacob Frasca, Beau Jelsma, Cole Beaudoin and Tai York.

The Storm (13-18-3-1) outshot the Colts 38-31, but trailed 5-0 after the first period and 8-0 heading into the final frame.

ERIE, Penn. — Three third-period goals by Anthony Agostinelli proved to be the difference as the Niagara IceDogs defeated the host Erie Otters 5-2.

Andrew LeBlanc and Daniel Michaud also scored for the IceDogs (8-17-4-1), who trailed 2-1 halfway through the game.

Kaleb Smith, Noah Sedore and Sam Alfano scored for the Otters (12-17-0-3), who outshot the IceDogs 32-26.

SAGINAW, Mich. — Hunter Haight scored two goals and added an assist as the Saginaw Spirit defeated the visiting Flint Firebirds 4-3.

Zayne Parekh, Michael Misa and Dean Loukus also scored for the West Division-leading Spirit (23-9-2-0).

Amadeus Lombardi, Zacharie Giroux and Braeden Kressler scored for the Firebirds (17-14-2-1), who were outshot 33-31.

LONDON, Ont. – George Diaco had a goal and assist as the London Knights tripped the visiting Sarnia Sting 4-1.

Denver Barkey, Sean McGurn and Ruslan Gazizov also scored for the Knights (23-8-1-0), who were outshot by the Sting 39-22.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – A hat trick from Nick DeGrazia powered Sudbury (12-17-3) to a win over Sault Ste. Marie (10-14-10). DeGrazia opened the scoring 46 seconds into the game, put away the game-winning strike 14:03 into the third period, then fired a puck into the empty net for his third of the night with 90 seconds left on the game clock.

WINDSOR, Ont. – Alex Christopoulos scored 2:08 into the extra frame as Windsor (21-8-4) edged Kitchener (15-14-2) in overtime. Michael Renwick had a pair of goals for the Rangers in regulation.

BULLDOGS 5 STEELHEADS 3

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – A four-point performance from Logan Morrison lifted Hamilton (15-13-4) to a win over Mississauga (15-16-3). The Bulldogs’ captain scored and added three assists, including a helper on the third-period power-play tally that ended up as the game winner.

BATTALION 7 GENERALS 3

NORTH BAY, Ont. – Justin Ertel scored twice and contributed an assist as North Bay (24-10-1) handed the Oshawa (11-16-4) a decisive defeat. The Generals opened the scoring and took a 2-0 lead midway through the first period but the Battalion were quick to answer and rang up four unanswered goals in the second and third.
