Canada’s Sarault races to short-track speedskating World Cup victory in 1,000

ALMATY, Kazakhstan – Courtney Sarault won gold in the women’s 1,000 metres on a three-medal day for Canada at the ISU short-track speedskating World Cup.
Pascal Dion captured silver in the men’s 1,000 on Saturday, while Canadian teammate Jordan Pierre-Gilles won bronze.
Sarault, a 22-year-old from Moncton, N.B., took the lead with five laps remaining and held on for the victory, her first in an individual distance. She crossed the line in one minute 32.671 seconds. Suk Hee Shim of South Korea was second (1:32.770), and American Corinne Stoddard took the bronze (1:33.025).
Dutch skater Jens van ‘t Wout held the lead for the majority of the men’s race to win gold in 1:26.074. Dion crossed in 1:26.147, while Pierre-Gilles finished in 1:26.347.
