Medicine Hat U13A Wildcats capture provincial gold

The Medicine Hat U13A Wildcats defended home ice during provincials this weekend.

The Wildcats took the gold, winning the U13 Female A provincials held in Irvine, beating the GHC Chaos 7-3 in Sunday’s final.

Emily Gergely had a goal and three points in the final, Harlyn Schimpf had a goal and an assist, and both Frances Jones and Isabelle Tschritter had a pair of assists.

Five other Wildcats found the back of the net, Finley Kletzel, Brynlee Dovichak, Euphie Jérôme, Marlee Collier and Nova Moyer all scored in the gold medal game. Chloe Lee made 22 saves in the win.

Medicine Hat opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against the Chaos on Thursday. Tschritter scored and Lee made 12 saves.

Lee stopped all 16 shots she faced Friday morning in a 9-0 shutout win over Lloydminster 581. Dovichak, Leighton Moon and Tschritter each had a goal and three points, Schimpf and Jones both added a pair of goals. Moyer scored and both Gergely and Marlee Collier had a pair of assists.

On Saturday the Wildcats blanked the EF552 10-0, Lee stopping all 13 shots she faced. Tschritter had three goals and four points, Dovichak had a goal and four points and both Alexis Marshall and Moon had a goal and three points. Collier scored twice, Kletzel and Moyer each scored. Schimpf and Jérôme each had two assists.

The Wildcats punched their finals ticket with a third straight shutout, blanking the Red Deer DataCan 9-0 Sunday morning. Lee stopped all nine shots she faced in the win.

Jones had a goal and three points, six Wildcats had a goal and two points, Schimpf, Kletzel, Dovichak, Marshall, Collier and Moyer skating to two-point efforts. Shae Lynn Lee and Moon each scored.

The U13A Wildcats beat Red Deer in a best-of-three series to capture the Rocky Mountain Female Hockey League Championship, winning Game 2 on March 7.
