Ringette Roundup: Open B Smash to represent Zone 1 at provincials after win Sunday

The Medicine Hat Open B Smash secured their spot in provincials action with a win Sunday afternoon.

The Smash hosted the Lethbridge Rattlers on Sunday afternoon in a one game, winner-take-all contest for the right to represent Zone 1 at the 2026 Provincial championships. The Medicine Hat Open team won the important match 9-4.

Hannah Thompson notched a hat trick, Mahala St Jacques had two goals and Dee Karamanos, Kayty Leidal, Sofie Kerr and Heather Kempthorne all found the back of the net. Mark Fisher played in goal for the win.

Next up for the Smash is a one-day mini tournament in Bassano on Mar. 1. Smash welcomes the Calgary Tigers and CABO, a team from Central Alberta playing out of Lacombe. They will head to provincials on Mar. 13-15 in Calgary.

U14

The Medicine Hat U14B Mustangs travelled to Calgary for a couple games this weekend.

They fell short in the first game against Calgary South, losing 11-2.  Arika McDowall scored a solo tally, Brinley Cross also found the back of the net assisted by Katie-Lee Sehn.

They fell short again in the second contest, losing to Airdrie by a score of 5-2.  Kassidy Etienne scored both goals, one assisted from Annabelle O’Reilly. Grace Stirling was in net for both games. The pair of weekend games mark the end of their season.

U16

The Medicine Hat U16B Mustangs travelled to Airdrie on Sunday to play Bow View 2.

Bow View won the game 7-6. The Mustang goals were scored by Breanna Lanuk and Onyka Funk, both tallying a pair and both Margot Kerr and Kassidy Etienne who scored one each. Assists by Lanuk, Kerr, Etienne, Lacey Gibney, Madison Helgeson, Addison Mastel and Sloane Berstad.

Jacquline Leblanc was between the pipes.

The U16 Mustangs head to Rockyford this Saturday to play against Foothills and Cochrane for the final weekend of Session 3.
