The Mustangs had a pair of league games in Calgary against two teams ranked higher in league standings. They beat Bow View-2 in their first game, winning 8-4. Leighton Wright had a six-point effort with four goals and two assists. Kasey Martin had two goals with an assist, Kendall Smith had a goal and two assists and Ryleigh Jackiw had a solo tally. Avi Velichko and Ava Allchurch each added two assists and Karly Stennick had an assist in the win. The Mustangs battled in the second game, ultimately falling 5-2 to the undefeated Calgary NW-2. The two teams were tied 2-2 after three quarters. Velichko had a goal and an assist, and Stennick scored a solo marker. Reese Tabor, Wright and Martin all had an assist. The U19B Mustangs hit the road again with another Calgary trip on Saturday. U16 The Medicine Hat U16 Mustangs played a double header against Bow View 2 on Sunday. The Mustangs lost the first game 4-3. All three goals coming from Breanna Lanuk with assists from Lacey Gibney. The Bow View 2 team also took the second game, 8-3. Lanuk, Tia Van Maarion and Jillian Stodalka each scored, assists coming from Lanuk, Stodalka and Gibney. Emma Pinnell was in net for both games. The U16B Mustangs are off to the City of Bridges Tournament in Saskatoon this weekend. U12 The U12C Mustangs took on a B tournament in Regina this weekend. Their opening game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Mustangs battling before falling 8-7. Jayla-Ray Klaudt, Ellie Weisgerber, Hailee Kopeck and Maizee Trotter each scored with assists from Eris Davies. The Mustangs were held scoreless in their second game, falling 5-0. They rebounded in their third game with a 7-4 victory. Addison Staheli, Kimber Moch, Trotter and Klaudt all found the back of the net, while Nora Dunn stood tall in goal to help secure the win. The final game wrapped up the weekend with a 6-2 loss. U10 The Medicine Hat Step 3 Mustangs competed at the Regina tournament this weekend, picking up a pair of wins. They kicked things off with a4-2 win over the Regina Kraken. Hudson Kerluke scored twice, Kylee Drever and Addy McKinley also found the back of the net. The Mustangs fell 8-5 to the BP Aces in their second game, with Everley Cross scoring twice on assists from Miriam McClung. Addy McKinley scored with help from Laila Loehndorf, Harper Fuller added a goal and Kerluke scored on a play assisted by Brielle St. Laurent and McKinley. They rebounded from the loss with a 5-3 win over BP Dynamite. McKinley and Fuller each scored twice, with assists from Lily Steiner, Gabby O’Reilly and Bailey Weeks, Cross added the fifth goal. The tournament wrapped up with a 6-3 loss to St. James Boom. McClung scored twice on assists from Harper Fuller, Brielle St. Laurent, Rozlyn Moch and Ridley Trotter, Cross added the other Medicine Hat goal. Goaltending duties throughout the weekend were shared by Brielle St. Laurent, Ridley Trotter and Laila Loehndorf. The Step 3 Mustangs are back in action at the Moose on Saturday facing Lethbridge. Medicine Hat’s Step 2 Mustangs were in Strathmore for the Laurie Ruppe tournament. They faced Lethbridge in their first game Friday, seeing Brinley Chabluk find the back of the net. Later in the day they took on North West Calgary. Chabluk tallied two goals, Addison Clegg also tickled twine. Their final game came on Saturday against Strathmore. Clegg and Chabluk each scored. No final scores were reported in the games. The U10 Step 1 Mustangs were also in Strathmore for the Laurie Ruppe Tournament. They played three games over the weekend, taking on the Cochrane Rockies, Strathmore Ice and the Indus Lightening. No scores were reported for the games. Open The Medicine Hat Open B Smash hosted a three-team, one-day Open B tournament on Sunday in Bassano. They beat the Lethbridge Rattlers 16-5 in their first game. The Smash followed that win up with had a narrow 4-3 victory over Cochrane Chaos. In the championship game, the Smash faced the Rattlers in a rematch, skating to a 9-5 win. In the tournament Hannah Thompson scored nine times, Kayty Leidal had eight goals, Mahala St Jacques had five goals, Allison Mason four tallies, Abby Haney had a pair of markers and Ashlyn Seale both and Leighton Wright each scored. Next for Smash is the Zone 1 Open B playdown on Feb. 22. The winner will compete in the provincial championship March 13-25 in Calgary. 42
