Ringette Roundup: Open B Smash take gold at Silver Ring Jamboree

The Medicine Hat Open B Smash returned from Edmonton this weekend golden.

The Smash won the Silver Ring Jamboree, sweeping their weekend slate.

The Smash went undefeated through round-robin play.

They played the Adrenaline on Friday night, winning 3-2. The Adrenaline goalie kept the game close. Hannah Thompson scored twice and Abby Haney scored a solo marker in the win. Tyler Leidal was in goal for Medicine Hat.

On Saturday morning the Smash beat CABO (Red Deer) 7-3. Sophie Kerr tallied two goals, with singles from Kayty Leidal, Lindsay Hart, Mahala St-Jacques, Thompson and Dee Karamanos. Leidal was in net once again.

Saturday evening they crushed St. Albert Stealth 12-3. Kailyn Baum exploded for five goals, they had a pair of tallies from Thompson and Allison Mason, singles added by Sophie Kerr, St Jacques and Lindsay Hart. Mark Fisher played in net.

The Smash played Stealth in the gold final and won 9-1.

Medicine Hat’s Open C Force also played at the Silver Ring Jamboree tournament.

They finished 3-1 on the weekend, beating the Regina Hitmen in the first game 5-4. They then faced the Edmonton Eclipse, winning 4-3. Later that day the Force played the Calgary Comets, a 5-3 loss. The Force going 2-1 in round robin play put them third, after losing out in goals for and against.

The Force played the Edmonton Eclipse for bronze Sunday. They trailed 4-1 going into the second period before scoring four unanswered goals for a 5-4 win.

Scoring on the weekend for the Force was Rayelle Smith with four goals, Raynah Gibney and Kalley Piercey had three goals each, Jenna Clark and Ami Dynes each had a pair of goals and singles came from Amanda Beaudoin, Hannah Giesbrecht and Kennedy Wilson. Kelcie Wilson and Jordyn Clarke split the goaltending.

U14

The U14B Mustangs travelled to Lethbridge this weekend for a pair of games.

They lost the first game 10-5. Kassidy Etienne scored three goals, assisted by Dannalee Sawchuk, Myah Weber and Rhya Weinberger. Arika McDowall and Jorja Sadler also found the back of the net assisted by Etienne and Sawchuk. They fell short in the second game by a score of 6-2. Sadler and Etienne scored with an assist from Cross.

Grace Stirling was in net for both games.

U12

The U12B Mustangs earned their first wins of the season this weekend as Cochrane came to town for a two-game set.

In the first game, the Mustangs jumped to an early lead, leading to a 7-4 win. Charlie Lowe led the offense with two goals and three assists. Other Mustangs goals came from Sloan Loehndorf, Ava Lanuk, Avery Fuller, Dylin Kerluke and Isabelle Perrault.

Perrault added two assists, while other helpers also went to Fuller, Lanuk, Kerluke, Loehndorf and Katie Vis.

They carried the momentum into the second game, skating to a convincing 6-1 win.

Lowe led the way again, recording a first-half hat trick. Kerluke, Fuller and Fallyn Weeks each added a goal. Perrault finished with two assists, while Fuller, Loehndorf and Kerluke chipped in with one helper each. Zayda Dawson was steady between the pipes, delivering solid performances in both games.

The Mustangs are back in action Feb. 6-8 at the Saskatoon City of Bridges Tournament.

The U12C Mustangs travelled to High River this weekend to play Foothills on Saturday.

The Mustangs came out strong and finished with a 7-2 win.

Jayla-Ray Klaudt, Maizee Trotter and Kimber Moch each had two goals and Ellie Weisgerber had a solo marker. Everley Cross had two assists and Addison Staheli, Lexi Aldred, Klaudt and Trotter each recorded assists.

The Mustangs then headed to Rockeyford for the afternoon, pulling out a 10-9 win.

Trotter and Klaudt both scored four goals, Staheli had two tallies and affiliate player Everley Cross scored the winning goal with 28 seconds left. Assists were from Cross and Moch.

Nora Dunn stood in goal both games.

The U12C Mustangs head to Regina for their next games the weekend of Jan. 30.

U10

The Medicine Hat U10 Step 3 Mustangs faced a tough test this weekend, facing the top seeded team Indus in a two-game series, with Indus coming away victorious in both matchups.

The first game ended with a 9-1 win for Indus. Lily Steiner scored the lone goal for the Mustangs, while Everley Cross put in a solid effort in net during the opening frame despite heavy pressure.

Their second game saw a similar result, with Indus earning a 9-3 victory. Bailey Weeks found the back of the net for Medicine Hat, Adelynn McKinley added a goal in the first period, assisted by Everley Cross. In the second period, Laila Loehndorf scored both Mustangs goals, with assists coming from Rowyn Greenlay and Everley Cross.

The Medicine Hat Mustangs will be back in action at the Regina tournament beginning January 29.
