Rattlers Roundup: Rattlers basketball teams split weekend slate on the road

The Rattlers men’s and women’s basketball teams each picked up a win over the weekend.

Both teams were at Olds College over the weekend, with the men losing 101-95 on Saturday before winning 97-78 on Saturday.

On Friday, Jordan Biggar had 19 points and nine rebounds, Kieran Isnor had 18 points and nine rebounds. Ethan Robinson had 14 points.

In Saturday’s win, Bigger led the offence with 27 points and 24 rebounds. Isnor had 24 points and Robinson had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The women’s team won 58-54 on Friday before falling 58-48 on Saturday.

Jasmine Gardiner led the way in the win with 25 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Veda Gottselig had 12 points and 19 rebounds.

Brynn Bremner had eight points Saturday, Gottselig had five points and 17 rebounds.

The men (6-6) and women (6-7) have two games against the SAIT Trojans this weekend. They’re on the road Friday before hosting the Trojans on Saturday at the Snake Pit. The women’s game is at 6 p.m., men’s at 8 p.m.

Volleyball

The Rattlers volleyball teams hosted SAIT over the weekend.

The men’s team won in four sets Friday (23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20) before losing in five sets Saturday (25-23, 16-25, 20-25, 25-22, 12-15).

William Reiniger had 16 kills in the win Friday, Conor Aasman added 11 and Joel Lehr had 10 as well. In Saturday’s loss, Reiniger had 16 kills.

The women’s team lost both matches, losing in three sets Friday (13-25, 23-25, 22-25) and falling in four sets Saturday (17-25, 25-12, 18-25, 17-25).

Tannah McKay led the attack Friday with 10 kills. They had a balanced offence Saturday with four hitters recording six kills, Jaivyn Barabe, Fayth Spencer, McKay and Sophia Robertson.

The men (4-9) and women (2-11) host SAIT on Friday before facing the Trojans on the road Saturday. Friday’s matches at the Snake Pit get underway at 6 p.m. (men’s) and 8 p.m. (women’s).

Hockey

The Rattlers women’s hockey team was on the road this weekend, facing the NAIT Ooks. They won 1-0 in a shootout Friday before falling 4-1 Saturday.

Sarah Shields stopped all 47 shots she faced in the win.

Zayda Summach scored the Rattlers’ lone goal in Saturday’s loss, Shields made 45 saves.

The Rattlers (5-12) host Red Deer Polytechnic for a pair of games this weekend at the Moose Rec Centre. Friday’s game is at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday’s at 1 p.m.
