sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Lethbridge Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt has resigned after 11 years with the club following a second investigation into his conduct from the WHL. The Hurricanes and the Western Hockey League announced Anholt’s resignation on Friday with the league shedding light on an investigation. The league says Anholt’s resignation follows the investigation of a historical personal conduct matter. The alleged matter, dating to 2015, involved a verbal interaction with a player that, as described, falls outside the WHL’s Standards of Conduct with respect to threatening and intimidating language. “After a WHL disciplinary investigation, the Lethbridge Hurricanes have accepted the resignation of General Manager Peter Anholt,” Hurricanes president of the board of directors Doug Paisley said in a release. “It was mutually determined that this is the best path forward following the conclusion of the investigation. The claim alleged Anholt breached the WHL Standard of Conduct with respect to threatening and intimidating language. The Lethbridge Hurricanes will move forward with the highest commitment to fostering a positive player environment.” The most recent investigation follows WHL disciplinary action from November 2025 when Anholt was suspended and the Hurricanes were fined following a display of intimidating behaviour from Anholt during a post-game address to the team. The WHL says they were not aware of the allegation from 2015 at the time of the matter from November 2025 and they say both claims were filed via the League’s 1-800 WHL Respect hotline, and this claim was investigated by the WHL Security Department. Senior adviser Barclay Parneta will assume general manager duties for the Hurricanes on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season. Parneta, who scouted for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 1989-90 season, was hired by the Hurricanes in August 2025. He spent the previous seven seasons as the GM of the Vancouver Giants. According to the league release, Anholt has agreed to participate in counselling, in the spirit of personal betterment. His counselling will be sponsored by the Hurricanes and WHL. 10
